MCMS Wellness Center Appropriate Use Guidelines
The Wellness Center offers a variety of services. Our goal is to meet the health needs of all students; teach healthy lifestyle practices; detect & treat problems and illnesses before they become serious; and reduce time lost from school. The Wellness Center staff has developed the following guidelines for appropriate use: Unless you have an appointment, take daily medication or there is an emergency, such as serious bleeding or vomiting, there is no need to leave during class to go to the Wellness Center. Minor problems should be taken care of during tutorial or during lunch to avoid missing class. Between classes, you should always check in with your next teacher and get a pass to the Wellness Center so that your teacher knows where you are. It is up to your teachers to decide when you may leave the classroom – they may suggest that you wait until later in the class period. If you are coming to the Wellness Center from class, you always need a passfrom your teacher. If you do not have a pass, Wellness Center staff will ask you to return for a pass - unless it’s an emergency, of course. Please see Jill Harriman, or one of our volunteers, in the Wellness Center if you want to make an appointment with Gwen, the school counselor. You should also make an appointment with Vicky, the school nurse, if you think you’ll need more than 10 minutes. Appointments can be set up during tutorial or during lunch. If you have an appointment, you need to show your appointment pass to your classroom teacher - you will get your appointment pass during advisee time. The Wellness Center staff tries to schedule appointments so they are the least disruptive to your school day. Call Jill Harriman if you are unable to keep your appointment. Appointments in the Wellness Center are considered ‘excused’ just like a doctor’s appointment, dental appointment, or counseling appointment that occurs off school grounds.
